This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Joanne Fletcher and her inspiring journey of getting back on track at AB Health & Fitness. After joining the Life program, she has been focusing on her goals, building strength, and enjoying every moment in our energetic community.
What first brought you to AB, and how were you feeling before you started?
“The Life program. Cindy was promoting it at Keilor Basketball Club where my children play basketball. I felt the need to do something outside of my busy work and life routine. It was the perfect opportunity to jump in and help me get back on track.”
Joanne’s journey began with a desire to reconnect with herself, and taking that first step made all the difference.
What’s something you’ve achieved or noticed lately that you’re really proud of?
“I am back at the gym and more focused on working toward the weight loss and muscle gain I want and need to achieve.”
Joanne’s focus and determination reflect the power of getting back on track and staying consistent with your goals.
How has being part of the AB community made a difference in your life?
“The gym, staff, and members are a pleasure to see every time I walk in. It keeps me wanting to come back! It always makes a difference to my day.”
Support and connection are central to Joanne’s journey, showing how a welcoming community can make fitness not just achievable but enjoyable.
Share a fun or unexpected moment you’ve had during a session.
“Every class is fun, and the laughs with everyone help me push through the pain!”
Those moments of laughter and camaraderie keep motivation high and workouts rewarding.
What’s your favourite class or movement, and why?
“I love a combination of weights and cardio in one class. I can’t pick a favourite because I enjoy them all. I’m currently loving Saturday mornings now that I’m back and making sure I get there.”
Joanne finds joy in variety, combining strength and cardio to make every session both challenging and enjoyable.
What helps keep you coming back even on busy or tired days?
“They say ‘no pain, no gain’ — I’m not going to achieve my goals if I don’t turn up! Having fun people there helps me drag myself there sometimes.”
A supportive community and a bit of fun keep Joanne motivated, even on the toughest days.
Has anything surprised you about yourself since starting at AB?
“I can be strong in my 50s if I put my mind to it! There are options to increase strength in certain muscle areas to assist my ‘running/run down’ knees.”
Joanne’s journey reminds us that strength and progress are possible at any age when we commit ourselves and stay consistent.
What’s a small win you’ve had lately that felt big to you?
“A little bit of weight loss when I didn’t expect it! I can be focused if I try.”
Celebrating small wins, like Joanne’s weight loss, is an important part of staying motivated and recognizing progress.
How do you feel walking out of the gym after a session?
“Adrenaline is high, and I feel great—even if I don’t look like it with the red face!”
The energy and confidence Joanne gains after each session fuel her continued commitment to getting back on track.
If you could describe AB in three words, what would they be?
“Fun, Inclusive, and Energetic.”
