From Apprehensive to Empowered: Frances’s Journey at AB Health & Fitness

This month, we’re excited to share Frances’s journey, a beautiful example of how showing up, even when it’s hard, can lead to real growth, strength, and connection.

What first brought you to AB, and how were you feeling before you started?

“I joined after completing the Daughters of the West health program, where Connie and Pili spoke about the Life program at AB. I was eligible to join, so I gave it a go. I felt a bit apprehensive at first because I didn’t know anyone, but I felt welcomed and quickly started enjoying the classes.”

Frances’s journey began with hesitation, but taking that first step made all the difference.

What’s something you’ve achieved or noticed lately that you’re really proud of?

“I’ve noticed that I’m lifting a bit heavier and feeling more confident doing so.”

That boost in strength and confidence is a big part of Frances’s journey, and it shows how consistency pays off.

How has being part of the AB community made a difference in your life?

“It’s given me a sense of belonging. I work from home and at times miss social interaction, but I get that here at AB, along with feeling fit and healthy.”

Support and connection are key parts of Frances’s journey and what makes the AB community special.

Share a fun or unexpected moment you've had during a session.

“I love the meditation at the end of yoga. It’s always fun with Elissa and Andrew. We all love Chad 😃”

Those moments of laughter and calm are what make AB special. Meditation with friends adds a great balance to the workout.

What’s your favourite class or movement, and why?

“My favourite class is Flex Flow. It comes after the Iron Strength and Strong classes, so the stretching feels really good after those workouts. I look forward to the meditation at the end. It helps me sleep well.”

Flex Flow is a perfect way to recover and reset. The mix of stretching and meditation helps both body and mind.

What helps keep you coming back, even on busy or tired days?

“I have a health issue that’s significantly improved since I started at AB, especially through lifting weights, and that’s encouraging and keeps me coming back. The support from the trainers and other members also makes it easier to show up.”

Knowing the positive impact on health combined with community support is a powerful motivator. It’s what keeps Frances and many others coming back.

Has anything surprised you about yourself since starting at AB?

“Yes, how I’ve been consistent and motivated.”

That motivation has been a driving force in Frances’s journey, and it’s something to be proud of.

How do you feel walking out of the gym after a session?

“I feel energised and strong.”

That’s exactly how we hope everyone feels after a session. It’s the kind of energy that stays with you and reminds you why showing up is always worth it.

If you could describe AB in three words, what would they be?

“Supportive, welcoming, and fun.”
