For many parents, finding time to exercise after having children can feel almost impossible. Between busy mornings, family responsibilities, and everyday life, fitness often slips to the bottom of the list. This month’s member spotlight features Lorraine Farrugia, whose consistent morning exercise routine has transformed not only her fitness, but also her confidence, energy, and outlook on life.
After having her second child, Lorraine was searching for a small, community-based gym where she could ease back into training and enjoy group classes again. She came across AB Health and Fitness on a local community page and decided to give it a go. She has not looked back since.
Starting the Day the Right Way
Lorraine’s proudest achievement is not measured by heavier weights or faster times. Instead, it comes from building a habit that has become part of her everyday life.
She now starts every day with at least 30 minutes of exercise, and that consistent morning exercise routine has made a remarkable difference.
“Exercising in the morning completely changes my mood and sets a positive tone for the rest of my day,” Lorraine says.
It’s a simple habit, but one that has improved far more than her physical fitness. Beginning each day with movement has given her more energy, greater confidence, and a positive mindset that carries through everything else she does.
As we often remind our members, consistency always beats perfection. Small daily actions add up over time, creating results that last.
More Than a Gym
When Lorraine talks about AB Health and Fitness, she speaks just as much about the people as she does the workouts.
She describes the gym in three words.
A place of belonging.
Being part of the AB community has given her a much more positive outlook on life. She especially admires the incredible work Aaron and Brendan do for the local community, saying their generosity and commitment inspire everyone around them.
Having a welcoming environment makes it much easier to stay committed. Whether you are new to fitness or have been training for years, surrounding yourself with supportive people helps you continue showing up, even when life gets busy.
Finding the Balance Between Strength and Cardio
Lorraine enjoys both strength and cardio sessions because each offers something different.
Strength training has become increasingly important as she gets older, helping build muscle, improve mobility, and support long-term health. Cardio gives her the endorphin boost and sense of achievement that leaves her feeling energised after every session.
Looking after your body outside the gym is just as important as the workouts themselves. Proper recovery, nutritious meals, and quality sleep all play an important role in helping you stay consistent. Be sure to check out our latest nutrition blog for more tips on supporting your training.
Showing Up Matters Most
Like everyone, Lorraine has days when she feels busy or simply does not feel like training.
What keeps her coming back?
“The trainers, the members, and knowing I’ll always leave feeling better than when I walked in.”
Since joining AB Health and Fitness, one of the biggest surprises has been discovering just how powerful consistency really is.
Even on the days she does not feel motivated, she turns up anyway.
She says she is always glad she did.
That commitment has led to one of her biggest recent wins. Building a consistent morning exercise routine has improved her confidence, boosted her energy, and enhanced her overall wellbeing.
It is a reminder that lasting progress is not built through occasional bursts of motivation. It is built through showing up again and again.
Fitness Should Be Fun
One thing Lorraine loves about training at AB is that there is always something to laugh about.
She could not think of one standout moment because every session brings plenty of fun, friendly banter, and smiles.
There is one challenge she does not underestimate though.
“Well, except when Brendan pulls out the resistance bands. They always seem easy at the time, but two days later I’m definitely reminded I used them!”
Those shared laughs help make every workout enjoyable and remind us that fitness does not always have to be serious.
Small Habits Lead to Big Results
Lorraine Farrugia’s journey shows that fitness is not about making dramatic changes overnight.
It is about creating habits that fit your lifestyle and sticking with them.
Whether you are returning to exercise after having children, looking to improve your health, or searching for a supportive community, a consistent morning exercise routine can be the foundation for lasting change.
You do not need to feel motivated every day.
You simply need to keep showing up.
Over time, those small daily choices become something much bigger.
